My pH keeps fluctuating — how do I fix it?Updated 2 days ago

pH fluctuations are common and can happen for several reasons, including salt buildup, unstable water sources, temperature changes, or inaccurate pH readings. Maintaining stable pH is essential for nutrient uptake and overall plant health.

Here’s how to fix and prevent pH drift:

1️⃣ Flush your system with clean, pH-balanced water to remove excess salts or buildup.

2️⃣ Recalibrate your pH meter regularly — inaccurate readings are one of the most common causes of pH confusion.

3️⃣ Check your water quality: High chlorine or unstable alkalinity in tap water can cause swings; let water sit 24 hours before use or consider filtered water.

4️⃣ Keep temperatures stable: Reservoirs or root zones that get too warm or cold can cause pH drift as microbial and nutrient activity changes.

5️⃣ Maintain cleanliness: Clean reservoirs, lines, and mixing containers frequently to prevent residue that can alter pH levels.

Tip: Small daily pH variations (±0.1–0.2) are normal. Large or sudden swings usually indicate an imbalance in nutrients, root health, or water source.
