Prevent by transplanting early or using fabric pots to promote air pruning.

Glandular Trichomes

Resin glands on cannabis buds and leaves that produce cannabinoids and terpenes.

Grower Slang: “Frost,” “sugar,” “glands.”

These trichomes determine potency, aroma, and flavor.

Glucose

A simple sugar produced by photosynthesis. Fuels plant growth and microbial activity.

Grower Slang: “Plant sugar.”

Cronk Tip: Sticky Bandit provides carbohydrate fuel to boost natural glucose pathways.

GMO (Genetically Modified Organism)

An organism whose genetic material has been altered by biotechnology.

Grower Slang: “GMO weed” (also a strain name).

Note: Cannabis breeding uses traditional selection, not true GMO modification.

Gnat (Fungus Gnat)

Small flying insects that thrive in moist soil and feed on roots.

Grower Slang: “Gnats,” “soil flies.”

Cronk Tip: Let the medium dry between feeds and use Diatomaceous Earth to eliminate larvae.

Grams per Watt (g/W)

A grower efficiency metric measuring yield per watt of light used.

Grower Slang: “GPW.”

Example: 1g/W = 500g yield using 500W of lighting. A great benchmark for LED performance.

Grams per Square Foot (g/sqft)

Yield measurement based on canopy space used.

Grower Slang: “Yield per foot.”

Helps assess productivity in tents or commercial setups.

Grow Bag

Flexible containers (fabric or plastic) used to hold growing medium.

Grower Slang: “Fabric pot,” “grow sack.”

Provide better aeration and prevent root binding.

Grow Light

Artificial lighting used to support photosynthesis.

Grower Slang: “Rig,” “fixture,” “light bar.”

Cronk Tip: Full-spectrum LEDs are most efficient for cannabis.

Grow Medium

The material that supports root systems — soil, coco, rockwool, perlite, etc.

Grower Slang: “Substrate,” “mix.”

Cronk Tip: Coco + perlite provides ideal aeration and nutrient control.

Grow Room

An enclosed, climate-controlled environment for cultivation.

Grower Slang: “Grow space,” “grow tent,” or simply “the room.”

Must maintain stable temperature, humidity, CO₂, and airflow.

Grow Tent

Portable, reflective enclosures that replicate controlled grow environments.

Grower Slang: “Tent,” “cab,” “setup.”

Great for hobby growers and indoor cultivators.

Grower (Cultivator)

Anyone who grows plants for personal or commercial purposes.

Grower Slang: “Cultivator,” “farmer,” “homegrower.”

Cronk Community: Every grower is a scientist, an artist, and a caretaker.

Growth Hormones

Natural plant compounds like auxins, cytokinins, and gibberellins that direct development.

Grower Slang: “Plant hormones.”

Cronk Tip: Balanced nutrient ratios enhance hormone regulation naturally.

Growth Inhibitor

A substance or condition that slows plant development (cold stress, drought, or overfeeding).

Grower Slang: “Growth block.”

Identify and correct the source to resume normal growth.

Growth Rate

The speed at which plants develop biomass and new shoots.

Grower Slang: “Speed,” “veg pace.”

Optimized by correct lighting intensity and nutrient ratios.

Growth Stage

Distinct phases of plant development — germination, vegetative, and flowering.

Grower Slang: “Phase,” “stage.”

Each stage has unique nutrient and environmental needs.

Guard Cells

Specialized cells on leaf surfaces that control gas exchange and transpiration through stomata.

Grower Slang: “Stoma valves.”

Healthy guard cells = efficient water use and CO₂ uptake.

Guttation

The release of excess water droplets from leaf edges (often at night).

Grower Slang: “Leaf sweat,” “plant tears.”

Normal in healthy plants but can indicate overwatering if excessive.

Greenhouse

A light-permitting structure that allows temperature and humidity control while using natural sunlight.

Grower Slang: “Hoop house.”

Cronk Tip: Perfect hybrid setup — use natural light with supplemental LEDs for efficiency.

Green Light

Wavelengths between 500–570 nm that help with canopy penetration.

Grower Slang: “Work light.”

Used for night-time inspection since plants barely react to green light.

Green Thumb

Grower slang for natural gardening ability or experience.

Grower Slang: “Having the touch.”

Anyone can earn a green thumb with patience and consistency.

Green Waste

Plant matter removed during trimming or defoliation.

Grower Slang: “Trim waste.”

Can be composted or used in teas to recycle nutrients.

Grower Slang: “Earth line.”

Always ground lighting and pumps properly in hydro systems.

Growth Regulator (PGR)

Synthetic chemicals used to alter plant growth patterns.

Grower Slang: “PGRs.”

⚠️ Avoid non-organic PGRs in consumable crops; they reduce flavor and safety.

Grow Cycle

The complete period from germination to harvest.

Grower Slang: “Run,” “cycle,” or “season.”

Autos: ~80–100 days. Photoperiods: 120+ days from seed to cure.

Gravitropism

A plant’s natural response to gravity — roots grow down, shoots grow up.

Grower Slang: “Plant orientation.”

Training changes this response to shape the canopy.
